Himan's are often asked the origin of their surname. Most intelligence studies have the Himan's registered as Jewish. If you check net detective or marketing databases as I have, my husbands family (brother, uncles, sons) are all listed as Jewish. Another equally wrong guess is that the surname is German.
The name is Spanish!
Here is the story. Jose Pelle Jaime traveled with his wife Isabell Alobe Ortiz and six children from Spain to America, All the children were born in Spain, All the boys took their mother's surname ORTIZ as their middle names.
The name was Jaime (pronounced in espanol as Hi mee) but in the USA the name was often pronounced JAY MEE. In spanish the letter "an" embellished can sound like "ee". So the grandfather attempted to spell Hi mee in English ---- but alas he creates a new surname HI MAN.
Yes there is another family with Himan as a surname but the 6 Himan children are very unique.
